Scarlett Johansson, American actress (born on November 22nd, 1985 in New York City New York) has earned acclaim due to her ability to act across different various genres from the period dramas through thrillers to action-packed films. Johansson was born in New York City, and lived there with her architect father and producer mother. Her twin brother Hunter and her were the youngest siblings. At the age of seven, she was auditioning for television commercials. In order to develop her skills, she attended an acting class at Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute in Manhattan followed by at the Professional Children's School. In the age of eight, she appeared with Ethan Hawke in the Off-Broadway production Sophistry and when she turned nine, she made her film debut on Rob Reiner's North (1994). Johansson came next to the screen in Just Cause (1996), however the film Manny & Lo 1996 that brought her to the forefront. The film tells the story of two orphaned girls who are wandering off. Then, she was awarded the praise of critics for playing one of the teens who experienced an accident which caused her to be disfigured In The Horse Whisperer (1998). The film gained her more attention with the film Ghost World (2001) as the cynical outcast Rebecca.
