Scarlett Johansson (born November 22 1984 New York City New York, U.S.) American actress and vocalist whose dramatic versatility earned her praise in various genres ranging from period drama to thriller and action adventure. Johansson, the daughter of a film producer and an architect, was born within New York City. Her twin brother Hunter were the youngest of four siblings. When she was seven, she was making auditions for commercials on television. Then she began her studies at the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute and later attended the Professional Children's School in Manhattan for further training in her craft. At age eight she appeared with Ethan Hawke in the Off-Broadway production Sophistry when she was nine. At that age, she made her debut in film as Rob Reiner's North (1994). Johansson was next seen as a character in Just Cause (1996), but the film Manny & Lo 1996 that gave her a breakthrough. The movie is about two teenage girls wandering off. in The Horse Whisperer, Johansson was a teenager who suffered an incredibly tragic accident. In Ghost World, 2001 as an outcast teenager Rebecca was a further boost to her profile. As with many actresses who started out she decided to hone her art in the realm of theatre. Her work included various theatre projects throughout the USA in the midst of making her stage debut.
